It is not that easy to find a shared apartment (WG) when you are still abroad. Most of the time the tenants would like to meet the applicant beforehand. You should try it nonetheless. It is the best possibility to meet Germans and to have a lot of fun. It is important to understand basic “WG”-terminology. “Nicht-Zweck-WG” means that people are living together out of free choice, enjoying each others’ company. People get along very well in these WGs and often share meals and their spare time. “Zweck-WG” means that people live together mainly for saving rent. In that case advertisers express that they do not desire a cohabitant who needs company all the time.

Most ads are to be found in the “nadann.” It is a free magazine that is both published online and in print. On www.nadann.de new ads are added every Wednesday. It is the medium with the most ads in Münster. The paper version can be found all over the city. If you are looking for a “WG” in March or September it is very important to pick up a copy of nadann at their headquarters. You should go to the address below and start looking for “WGs” on Wednesdays at noon or on the internet at 10 p.m. You can also run an ad yourself.

Interim renting

Many exchange students go travelling during the lecture free time or simply return home. Some exchange students have been annoyed by the fact that they have to rent their apartments during that whole time, although they are not around.
